Tougiou King Colossus is one of those weird, obscure Genesis/Mega Drive games that feels like it slipped through the cracks. You play as this massive armored warrior—basically a walking tank—smashing through enemy hordes with slow, heavy swings. The controls take some getting used to since your guy moves like he’s weighed down by a castle, but there’s something satisfying about plowing through waves of smaller enemies like they’re made of paper.

It’s got that classic arcade-style progression—beat a stage, fight a boss, repeat—but with a weirdly methodical pace. Not gonna lie, the first time I played, I got wrecked because I kept trying to button-mash like it was Streets of Rage. Nope. This one’s all about timing those lumbering attacks just right. The sprite work’s actually pretty cool, especially the bosses—some of them take up half the screen.

Definitely a niche pick, but if you’re into clunky-but-powerful combat and retro oddities, it’s got its charm. Just don’t expect anything fast-paced.
