Ever played Super Punch-Out!! and wished there was something similar on the Genesis? Toughman Contest is basically that—a fast-paced, arcade-style boxing game where you dodge, weave, and throw haymakers at some seriously over-the-top opponents. The first guy you fight looks like he just walked out of a '90s pro wrestling show, and it only gets weirder from there.
Controls are simple—jab, hook, block—but timing matters. If you just mash buttons, you’ll eat a counterpunch and see stars. The 32X version adds a little extra polish, but even the Genesis version has that satisfying *thwack* when you land a clean hit. Some of the later fighters feel downright unfair, but hey, that’s part of the charm.
It’s not the deepest boxing sim, but for a quick, chaotic brawl, it gets the job done.
