Ever been turned into a monkey against your will? That’s Toki’s whole deal—some wizard zapped him into a spitting, vine-swinging ape, and now he’s gotta fight his way through jungles and caves to get his human body (and girlfriend) back. Classic 90s premise, honestly.
The first thing you’ll notice is how bright and loud everything is—neon greens, punchy enemy designs, and this weirdly catchy soundtrack that sticks in your head. Toki controls like a dream, too. His spit attack has this satisfying arc to it, and once you get the timing down, you can pick off enemies mid-jump like some kind of primate sniper.
It’s not all smooth sailing, though. Some of those platforming sections get brutal, especially when the screen starts filling up with floating heads or whatever nightmare fuel the next level throws at you. But that’s part of the charm—it’s tough but fair, and beating a boss after a dozen tries feels like a real victory.
If you’re into weird retro platformers with personality, this one’s a blast. Just don’t blame me when you’re humming the music for days.
