Toki - Going Ape Spit is one of those weird, charming arcade ports that somehow works better than it should. You play as a monkey—well, technically a guy cursed into a monkey—who spits glowing energy blasts (okay, fine, "monkey vomit") at everything from giant frogs to floating skulls. The controls are simple, but the levels throw some surprisingly tough platforming at you, especially when enemies start swarming.

What really sells it is the absurd tone. One minute you're hopping across lily pads, the next you're dodging fireballs from a grinning totem pole. The Genesis version keeps the arcade’s bright colors and goofy animations, though the music’s a little tinny compared to the original. It’s short, but the last boss fight against the wizard who cursed you feels satisfying—if only for the sheer ridiculousness of a spitting ape taking down dark magic.

Definitely a niche pick, but if you like old-school run-and-guns with personality, this one’s worth a few credits.
