Toe Jam & Earl: Panic on Funkotron is one of those weird, funky Genesis gems that sticks with you. The sequel flips the original’s roguelike vibe into a side-scrolling alien hunt—you’re basically playing intergalactic bounty hunters rounding up escaped Earthlings who’ve invaded Funkotron. The art style’s all exaggerated, cartoony chaos, and the soundtrack? Pure 90s Sega funk.
At first, it feels a little clunky—jumping’s weighty, and some of the captures take timing—but once you get the rhythm, chucking humans into your spaceship never gets old. Also, the Japan version has a few tweaks, like different enemy placements. Worth a look if you’re into offbeat platformers with personality.
