Time Trax was a game planned for the Sega Genesis, or Mega Drive, that never actually came out. It was being developed by Malibu Interactive, a name you might recognize from other 16-bit titles. This was during that period when the Genesis library was expanding in all sorts of directions, including action platformers like this one was meant to be.

You control a character named Darien, a time-traveling police officer. Your main job is to chase a criminal through different historical eras, jumping between platforms and fighting enemies along the way. The gameplay involves screen-by-screen exploration, where you move from one fixed area to the next, and you use a special energy whip as your primary weapon. You also collect power-ups to enhance your attacks and health. The pacing is generally quick, with a steady stream of enemies to deal with, and the difficulty feels consistent with many action games from that time.
