About Theme Park
Theme Park came out for the Sega Genesis in 1994, developed by Bullfrog Productions. It was part of that wave of management sims that felt ambitious on a 16-bit console, letting you build and run a business from the ground up. You weren't just placing rides; you were responsible for the entire operation, which felt like a big step up from more straightforward action games of the time.
You control the park's development from an overhead view, placing paths, shops, and a variety of roller coasters and gentle rides. The main goal is to turn a profit and expand your park while keeping guests happy. Key mechanics include researching new attractions in a tech tree and manually setting the price for everything from admission to the salt content of your fries. The game has a slow, deliberate pace, and a single financial misstep can lead to bankruptcy. It feels like a constant, engaging puzzle where you balance creativity with spreadsheets.
