If you grew up with the Genesis, you probably remember The Terminator—that slightly janky but weirdly addictive side-scroller where you blast through post-apocalyptic L.A. as Kyle Reese. The pixel art nails the movie’s grimy vibe, even if the T-800 looks like he’s made of Lego blocks. You start off with just a pistol (good luck with that), but eventually grab shotguns and grenades to mow down HK drones and those creepy red-eyed endoskeletons.
It’s not perfect—some hit detection feels like you’re fighting the controls as much as Skynet—but there’s something satisfying about the chaos. The music’s all ominous synths, and the later factory levels actually make you feel like you’re sneaking into a robot death fortress. Just don’t expect a fair fight when the T-800 finally shows up.
This is one of those games where you’ll die a lot, but keep hitting restart because you know you can do better next time.
