Man, The Story of Thor on the Genesis is one of those games that just oozes atmosphere. You start off in this moody, almost eerie forest, swinging your sword at these weird little goblin things—the animations are surprisingly smooth for a 16-bit game. The music? Haunting. Like, you can tell right away this isn’t just another hack-and-slash.
What I love is how it mixes combat with these little puzzles—nothing too brain-melting, but enough to make you pause and look around. There’s this one part early on where you’ve gotta push statues onto switches, and I totally missed a hidden passage behind a waterfall the first time. Classic 90s design, where secrets actually feel secret.
Also, the German version’s got this weirdly cool box art—way darker than the Japanese or US releases. Fits the game’s vibe perfectly. If you’re into action RPGs with a side of mystery, this one’s aged way better than most from that era.
