I remember picking up The Lost World: Jurassic Park for the Sega Genesis back in 1997. It was published by Ocean Software, a company known for a lot of movie tie-ins during that era. On the Genesis, a system already aging when the PlayStation was taking off, this game was a late release trying to capture the blockbuster film's excitement with 16-bit hardware.

You control a hunter moving screen by screen through side-scrolling jungle and facility levels. Your main goal is to tranquilize dinosaurs and collect their eggs for Hammond's team, all while surviving the many creatures that want to eat you. The gameplay hinges on a few key mechanics: you use a limited supply of tranquilizer darts and grenades to subdue dinosaurs, and you must carefully manage your ammo and health packs. You also do a lot of platforming, jumping between vines and ledges while avoiding raptors and compys. The pacing is relentless, and the difficulty is steep, with instant death from falls or dinosaur attacks being a constant threat. It feels like a tense, unforgiving scramble through a park that is very much not under control.
