The Kick Boxing Game

Man, The Kick Boxing on Genesis is one of those early fighting games that somehow nails the simple, brutal fun of throwing hands (and feet). You pick your fighter—some have faster punches, others hit like a truck—and then it’s straight into the ring. No fancy combos here, just raw timing: duck under a high kick, counter with a quick jab, or go for broke with a spinning heel to the face.
The AI doesn’t mess around, either. First match feels manageable, then suddenly you’re against this dude who reads your moves like a book. Graphics are blocky by today’s standards, but there’s something satisfying about the way the sprites jerk back when you land a solid hit. Soundtrack’s all grunts and thuds, which honestly fits.
It’s not deep, but for a quick arcade-style brawl? Still holds up. Just don’t expect to button-mash your way to the belt.
