Man, The Faery Tale Adventure on Genesis was something else. You start off in this massive open world—way ahead of its time—just wandering through forests and villages with no hand-holding. No quest markers, no arrows pointing where to go. Just you, a sword, and a whole lot of "wait, was that cave there before?"
The graphics have that chunky early-90s charm, but the atmosphere? Surprisingly moody. One minute you're chatting with villagers who speak in riddles, the next you're getting jumped by goblins in the fog. And the music? Haunting little melodies that stick with you.
It's janky by today's standards (good luck figuring out some puzzles without a guide), but there's something special about how it throws you into this weird, lonely fantasy world and says "figure it out." Still one of those games I think about years later.
