About Tetris
I first played Tetris on the Sega Genesis back in 1989. Sega published this version themselves, and it was one of the many puzzle games vying for attention on the 16-bit console. It felt right at home on the Genesis, a system known for its fast action games, offering a different kind of challenge that relied on quick thinking instead of quick reflexes.
You control the falling tetrominoes, rotating and shifting them to create solid horizontal lines. The main goal is to clear these lines to prevent the blocks from stacking to the top of the screen. Two mechanics stand out: you can store a piece in reserve for later use, a strategic lifesaver, and the game lets you adjust how far a piece drops when you press down, giving you a crucial moment to nudge it into place. The pace starts deceptively calm but relentlessly speeds up, demanding faster decisions as the blocks pile up. It creates a tense, almost hypnotic focus where a single mistake can cascade into a quick game over.
