Terminator 2 on the Genesis is one of those licensed games that actually gets the vibe right—you’re either blasting through levels as Arnold’s T-800 with that chunky shotgun or scrambling around as Sarah Connor trying not to get shredded by HK drones. The first level throws you right into the future war with those creepy red Terminator eyes glowing in the dark, and yeah, the sprite work is blocky as hell, but it’s got this grimy, industrial feel that totally fits the movie.
Some levels play like a standard run-and-gun, others switch it up with driving sections where you’re mowing down enemies in the pickup truck from the film. The music? All ominous synths and pounding bass, exactly what you’d want. It’s not perfect—some hit detection feels wonky, and Sarah’s levels can be brutal—but if you grew up with this era of games, it’s a solid time capsule of early ‘90s action. Just don’t expect it to go easy on you.
