About Tecmo Super Nba Basketball (japan)
Tecmo Super NBA Basketball came out for the Sega Genesis in 1993, developed and published by Tecmo. It was part of that wave of 16-bit sports games where the focus was shifting from simple arcade action to something closer to a simulation, at least by the standards of the time.
You control a five man basketball team, switching between players on defense and directing the ball handler on offense. The main goal is to outscore your opponent by moving the ball, setting picks, and taking shots. A couple of things set it apart: the game uses a unique, slightly zoomed in camera that follows the action closely, and it has a specific button for stealing the ball, which makes for aggressive, risky defensive play. The pacing is fast, and the computer can be relentless on higher difficulties, forcing you to learn the timing of jumps and passes. It feels like a scrappy, physical game of basketball where every possession is a contest.
