Man, Tecmo Super NBA Basketball on the Genesis takes me back. The second you fire it up, you're hit with that classic early '90s vibe—bright colors, chunky player sprites, and that unmistakable squeak of sneakers on the court. The controls are simple enough to pick up fast (just mash buttons for steals at first, let's be honest), but there's some real strategy once you figure out the passing game.
What I love is how each team actually feels different—the Bulls play like a well-oiled machine, while the Warriors just chuck up wild shots like it's 1993 streetball. The animations are clunky by today's standards, sure, but there's something satisfying about that exaggerated dunk where players hang in the air for way too long. And that soundtrack? Pure cheese, but it somehow works when you're down by 2 with 10 seconds left.
It's not the deepest basketball sim, but for quick arcade-style matches with friends, it still holds up. Just don't expect modern realism—this is all about over-the-top blocks and last-second buzzer beaters. Still one of my go-to retro sports games when I need a break from today's hyper-polished NBA titles.
