About Tecmo Super Bowl
Tecmo Super Bowl came to the Sega Genesis in 1991, published by Tecmo. This was a time when having a full NFL license and real player names on a home console was still a novelty. It arrived on a system known for its arcade sports titles, offering a more complete football simulation than many of its contemporaries.
You control one player at a time, switching between the quarterback, receivers, and ball carriers on the fly. The main objective is to outscore your opponent by moving the ball down the field. Signature mechanics include the play selection screen, where you pick from a list of offensive and defensive formations, and the quarterback's passing meter, which you must time perfectly to complete a throw. The game moves at a brisk pace, and the computer opponents provide a tough challenge, especially on higher difficulty settings. It feels responsive and immediate, a game where a single broken tackle can turn the entire play around.
