Team USA Basketball on the Genesis was EA’s love letter to the '92 Dream Team—you know, the one with Jordan, Magic, and Barkley absolutely destroying everyone at the Olympics. It’s basically NBA Jam’s slightly more serious cousin, with the same fast breaks and monster dunks, but with a heavier focus on actual plays and defense. The roster’s stacked, obviously, and playing as any of those legends feels like cheating in the best way.
First thing you’ll notice? The animations are smoother than most basketball games from that era, and the AI actually puts up a fight—unless you’re spamming Pippen’s steals or abusing Stockton’s no-look passes. The courts have this weirdly nostalgic early ‘90s vibe, complete with pixelated crowds that somehow make missing a free throw even more embarrassing.
It’s not perfect—the commentary gets repetitive fast, and good luck figuring out the ref’s foul calls—but dunking on some poor international team with Ewing never gets old. If you ever wondered what it’d be like to play as basketball royalty, this is as close as the Genesis gets.
