About Swamp Thing (prototype)
I came across a prototype of Swamp Thing for the Sega Genesis, a game that was never officially released. It was developed by Equilibrium, a name not many remember, and it fits right into that early 90s era of side scrolling action games on the platform. You control Swamp Thing himself, moving through a series of levels set in murky environments like swamps and laboratories.
Your main goal is to stop a villain named Dr. Arcane, which involves navigating the game screen by screen. Swamp Thing uses his stretchy arm punches to attack enemies up close, and he can also throw projectiles like seeds. The pacing is methodical; you often have to clear all enemies in an area before you can proceed, which can feel slow. It is a difficult game, with enemies respawning quickly and some awkward platforming sections. Playing it feels like wrestling with a concept that never quite found its footing.
