Superman Returns on DS is one of those games where you immediately get why flying feels awesome—until you clip into a building for the fifth time. You start off soaring over Metropolis, which looks decent for a DS game, and dive straight into punching robots or rescuing civilians from disasters. The controls take some getting used to—tap the screen to heat-vision a bad guy, but good luck aiming it mid-flight.
It’s got that classic superhero power fantasy going for it, though. Throwing cars at Lex’s goons never gets old, and there’s something satisfying about hearing that John Williams theme kick in during a boss fight. Just don’t expect Arkham-level depth—this is more of a "turn your brain off and wreck stuff" kind of game. The missions get repetitive fast, but hey, sometimes you just wanna be Superman for 20 minutes.
If you’re into cheesy mid-2000s licensed games, it’s a decent time-waster between better titles.
