About Super Volley Ball
Super Volley Ball came out for the Sega Genesis in 1989, developed by Video System. It was one of those early sports titles that tried to capture a specific feel on the new 16 bit hardware, focusing on a sport that wasn't everywhere in the arcades.
You control a team of two players on the court, moving them around to serve, bump, set, and spike the ball over the net. The main goal is to outscore the opposing team by landing the ball in their court or forcing them to make a mistake. Two mechanics stand out: the ability to charge up a powerful super spike for a nearly unreturnable shot, and the strategic use of a feint, a softer tap that can catch defenders off guard. The game moves at a brisk pace, and the computer opponents get noticeably tougher as you progress, demanding quick reflexes and good positioning. It feels responsive and direct, a straightforward test of your timing and anticipation.
