Super Shinobi II, The (Japan) (Beta) (Earlier) is an unreleased build for the Sega Genesis, known as the Mega Drive in Japan. It was developed by Sega, and it represents an earlier stage of what would eventually become The Revenge of Shinobi. This game appeared during the console's early life, when developers were still exploring the hardware's capabilities for fast action and detailed backgrounds.
You control the ninja Joe Musashi, moving through stages screen by screen to rescue your kidnapped master. Your main objective is to fight through waves of enemies using a combination of shurikens and a short-range sword slash. Two signature mechanics are your limited ninja magic, which can clear the screen of foes, and the ability to cling to certain walls and ceilings to avoid hazards. The pacing is relentless, with enemies spawning frequently and projectiles coming from all directions, making it a challenging test of reflexes. Playing it feels like a constant, tense scramble where every jump and attack must be precisely timed.
