Super Monaco GP is one of those Genesis racers that still holds up—it’s got that perfect mix of arcade speed and just enough sim details to make you feel like you’re actually wrestling with an F1 car. The first thing you’ll notice is how twitchy the handling is, especially on tight corners like Monaco’s infamous hairpins. Mess up your braking, and you’re in the wall.
The championship mode is where it really shines, though. You start as a rookie picking from backmarker teams (good luck with that underpowered engine), and if you scrape together enough points, better offers start rolling in. The AI actually fights you for position, which was rare back then. And yeah, the graphics are simple by today’s standards, but the sense of speed when you hit a straight at full throttle? Still unmatched.
Just don’t expect modern assists—this is pure ’90s racing, where every mistake costs you.
