Super Hydlide is one of those old-school RPGs that feels like stumbling into a weird fantasy novel—in a good way. You start off as some poor guy cursed by an evil wizard, and suddenly you're running around chopping up slimes, figuring out cryptic NPC hints, and praying you don't accidentally eat the wrong mushroom (seriously, some of them poison you).
The combat's real-time but janky in that charming Genesis way—swing your sword, dodge awkwardly, and hope for the best. And the morality system? Ahead of its time. Be too much of a jerk, and townsfolk will straight-up refuse to talk to you. I learned that the hard way after robbing one too many houses.
It’s got that classic "where the heck do I go next?" energy, but if you’re into grindy, exploratory RPGs with a retro vibe, it’s weirdly satisfying once it clicks. Just maybe keep a walkthrough handy.
