Super Hydlide is one of those weird, rough-around-the-edges RPGs from the late '80s that somehow made it to the Genesis. It's the third in the Hydlide series—Japan got it on Famicom first, but this version's the one most of us ended up playing.
You start off as some generic hero waking up in a field with barely any gear, and within minutes you're getting wrecked by slimes if you're not careful. The combat's clunky, the magic system feels like it was designed by someone who hated fun, and yet... there's something oddly charming about it. Maybe it's the way the day-night cycle actually matters, or how you slowly piece together where to go next through cryptic NPC hints.
Honestly, it hasn't aged well, but if you're into retro RPGs with janky mechanics, it's a weird little time capsule.
