Super Fantasy Zone is that weird, colorful sequel to Fantasy Zone on the Genesis—you know, the one where you're basically a sentient spaceship with eyes, bouncing around candy-colored planets shooting at walking ice cream cones and other bizarre enemies. It's got that same manic, almost hallucinogenic energy as the original, but with bigger sprites and even more chaotic weapon upgrades.
At first, it feels like a standard shooter, but then you realize you're not just scrolling left to right—you're looping around these little planetoids, blasting enemy bases to earn cash for wild weapon upgrades. The shop system is where it gets fun: do you go for the rapid-fire spread shot early, or save up for the ridiculous homing lasers? Either way, things get gloriously messy fast.
It's not as famous as some other Genesis shooters, but the sheer personality and weirdness make it worth a play. Just don't blame me when you get the shop jingle stuck in your head.
