About Super Fantasy Zone (europe)
Super Fantasy Zone came out for the Sega Genesis in 1992, developed and published by Sega. It was part of that era when shooters were experimenting with more colorful, less rigid formats, moving a bit beyond the standard left-to-right or vertical scrolling templates.
You pilot the sentient ship Opa-Opa, flying freely across individual planet screens to destroy enemy bases. Your main goal is to earn enough money from defeated enemies to purchase weapons and upgrades from shops that appear on the map; this economic layer is central to the strategy. The game progresses screen by screen, letting you choose your path to tackle the enemy generators, and the pacing can feel frantic as you dodge dense enemy patterns while managing your cash for the next power-up. It feels like a constant, lively juggle between survival and shopping for an edge.
