Super Fantasy Zone is that weird, colorful shoot 'em up where you play as Opa-Opa, a little spaceship with wings—basically a sentient egg with an attitude. It’s the sequel to Fantasy Zone, but everything’s cranked up: brighter colors, weirder enemies, and this time, you’re hopping between planets instead of just one big map.

First thing you’ll notice? The music’s pure Sega Genesis synth chaos, in the best way. And the shops where you buy upgrades mid-level? Still there, but now you’ve got to juggle cash between weapons, speed boosts, and bombs. I always end up blowing all my coins on the spread shot too early and regret it when the screen fills with neon jellyfish or whatever nightmare the next boss throws at you.

It’s not the hardest shooter out there, but the charm’s in the sheer absurdity—like fighting a giant dancing cactus or a UFO made of candy. If you’re into retro games that don’t take themselves seriously, this one’s a trip.
