Super Battletank: War in the Gulf is the follow-up to the NES original, but this time it’s on the Genesis—which means way better explosions and smoother controls. You’re basically thrown into a desert warzone, blasting enemy tanks and helicopters while trying not to get shredded yourself. The terrain actually matters here—hills block shots, sand slows you down—so you can’t just brute-force every fight.
At first, the targeting feels a little stiff, but once you get the hang of leading shots, it’s satisfying to watch enemy armor crumple in a pixelated fireball. The missions get surprisingly tense, especially when you’re low on ammo and have to pick your shots. Not gonna lie, the music’s kinda forgettable, but the deep, rumbling tank engine noise? Weirdly immersive.
If you liked the first one or just want a no-nonsense tank sim with some strategy, this one’s a solid upgrade.
