About Super Airwolf (japan)
Super Airwolf was a Japan only release for the Sega Genesis, known as the Mega Drive there. It came out in 1990, developed by Kyugo and published by Edia. This was during the early years of the 16 bit console, a time when many developers were experimenting with translating arcade style shooters to the home system.
You pilot the Airwolf helicopter through a series of side scrolling and top down stages. Your main goal is to destroy enemy bases and survive the relentless waves of aircraft, tanks, and turrets. Signature mechanics include collecting power ups to enhance your main cannon and secondary weapons, like homing missiles. You also manage a limited supply of special screen clearing bombs for emergencies. The pacing is fast and the difficulty is steep, with enemy fire coming from all directions. It feels like a constant, tense battle for survival where a single mistake can be costly.
