Sunset Riders on the Genesis is pure arcade cowboy chaos—you pick one of four bounty hunters (I always go for the guy in red, no idea why) and blast your way through saloons, canyons, and train roofs while dodging bullets like some kind of rootin’-tootin’ ninja. The sprites are huge, the music’s got that twangy spaghetti western vibe, and enemies literally explode into coins when you shoot them. Classic Konami nonsense in the best way.
Some levels have you ducking behind barrels or jumping onto horses mid-gunfight, and the bosses? Oh man. One’s a fat guy who slides across the floor in his underwear after you beat him. It’s ridiculous, it’s tough as nails, and I still can’t beat the final stage without cheating. If you’ve got a buddy for co-op, it’s even better—just try not to shoot each other by accident when things get hectic.
This is the kind of game where you’ll swear at the screen, then immediately hit continue because you need to see what absurd showdown happens next. Still holds up.
