Remember when sports games didn’t need hyper-realistic graphics to be fun? Summer Challenge on the Genesis is pure early '90s energy—you pick an athlete, mash buttons to sprint, and somehow end up with a janky but satisfying rhythm in the swimming event. The cycling part feels like you’re fighting the controller more than the track, but in a weirdly charming way.
It’s got that classic "just one more try" vibe, especially when you barely miss the podium in the 100m dash. The pixelated crowds and tinny victory fanfare are nostalgia overload. Not gonna lie, some events age better than others (looking at you, archery), but it’s hard not to grin when your dude trips over a hurdle in slo-mo.
If you’ve got a Genesis collecting dust, this one’s worth blowing the cartridge for.
