SubTerrania on the Genesis is one of those weird, punishing gems from the '90s that sticks with you. You pilot a little ship through underground caverns, rescuing hostages while dodging lava, enemies, and your own terrible inertia—seriously, controlling this thing feels like steering a shopping cart on ice. The gravity mechanics take some getting used to, but once it clicks, weaving through tight tunnels with that synth-heavy soundtrack blaring feels oddly satisfying.
It’s not forgiving—you’ll probably crash into walls a lot at first—but there’s something about the mix of action and strategy (do you rush for hostages or take out turrets first?) that keeps you retrying. The Japanese version’s a bit rarer, though gameplay’s mostly the same. Just expect a lot of frantic button-mashing and maybe some controller-throwing moments.
