SubTerrania on the Genesis was one of those weird, punishing gems that didn’t get enough love back in the day. You pilot a little ship through underground tunnels, juggling fuel, oxygen, and gravity like some kind of stressed-out space janitor. The controls take a minute to click—your ship drifts like it’s underwater, and you’ll definitely faceplant into walls at first. But once it clicks, weaving through tight caves while rescuing hostages or dodging lava feels oddly satisfying.

The beta version’s a neat peek at what could’ve been—some different level layouts, tweaked mechanics. Not necessarily better, just… different. If you’re into retro games that don’t hold your hand, this one’s worth dusting off. Just maybe keep a walkthrough handy for the later levels.
