About Strider Hiryuu (japan)
Strider Hiryuu came out for the Sega Genesis in Japan in 1990, developed and published by Capcom. It was part of that early wave of games that tried to translate the feel of arcade action onto a home console, and for its time, it was a solid effort. The Japanese version is essentially the same as the ones released elsewhere, with only minor audio differences to note.
You control Hiryuu, a nimble operative armed with a plasma sword called the Cypher. Your mission is to traverse a series of stages, moving screen by screen, to defeat the grandmaster Meio. Your primary tool is that sword; you can perform a sliding slash to take out enemies low to the ground or a sweeping jump attack. The game is structured around exploration, finding keys to open doors, and navigating environmental hazards like icy cliffs and mechanized fortresses. The pacing is fast, and the difficulty is considerable, demanding quick reflexes and pattern recognition. It feels like a tense, acrobatic dash through a hostile sci-fi world.
