Stargate on the Genesis is one of those weird, kinda janky sci-fi action games that somehow sticks with you. You start off blasting through these alien corridors, dodging weird geometric enemies that feel like they’re straight out of an ‘80s arcade—which, honestly, they probably are. The controls take a second to get used to, but once you do, there’s something satisfying about the way your shots ricochet off walls.
It’s got that classic Sega difficulty too—expect to die a lot at first. The puzzles are simple but just cryptic enough to make you pause, and the whole thing has this eerie, low-fi synth soundtrack that somehow makes the whole experience feel bigger than it is. Not gonna lie, some of the level designs are downright mean, but beating them feels like an actual accomplishment.
If you’re into retro games that don’t hold your hand, this one’s a trip worth taking. Just don’t throw your controller when the teleporters start messing with you.
