Starflight is one of those old-school space games where you just get thrown into the universe and left to figure things out—in the best way possible. You start with a rickety ship, a tiny crew, and a whole galaxy to poke around in. The first time I played, I barely made it past the first few systems before running into pirates or running out of fuel (pro tip: don’t skip mining asteroids).
What’s wild is how much freedom you have—you can be a trader, a pirate hunter, or just a reckless explorer scanning every weird planet you find. Some of them have alien ruins, others just toxic wastelands. And yeah, there’s a story buried in there too, but half the fun is ignoring it and seeing how long you survive on dumb luck. The graphics are definitely vintage Genesis, but the sense of scale still holds up.
Just don’t expect hand-holding. You’ll crash, get stranded, and probably lose a crew member or two to bad decisions. That’s part of the charm.
