Sports Talk Baseball came out for the Sega Genesis in 1992, developed and published by Sega. It was part of that early wave of sports games trying to capture the feel of a real broadcast, with announcer commentary that was a big deal at the time. You control the entire baseball team, managing your fielders and taking your turns at bat. The main goal is to win the game, of course, either against the computer or a friend. A couple of things really defined it: the pitching interface gave you a cursor to place your throws with some precision, and the batting required careful timing to connect with the ball. The announcer, Ron Barr, would call out plays, which added a layer of personality you didn't always get. The pacing felt deliberate, a bit slower than some of the arcade-style baseball games, and getting a solid hit required practice. It felt like you were working through the innings, building a strategy rather than just swinging for the fences.
