About Splatterhouse 2 (europe)
Splatterhouse 2 came out for the Sega Genesis in 1992, developed by Now Production and published by Namco. It was part of that wave of early 90s console games that pushed the boundaries of what was considered acceptable content, trading on its horror movie aesthetic and graphic violence to stand out on the platform.
You control Rick, a hulking figure in a mask, as he fights through the splatterhouse and its grounds to rescue his girlfriend, Jennifer. The game is a side scrolling beat 'em up where you move from screen to screen, using your fists and occasionally finding weapons like two by fours or shotguns to dismember the monsters in your path. Your main goal is straightforward: survive the mansion's horrors and reach the final boss. The pacing is relentless, and the difficulty is punishing; enemies swarm you constantly, and environmental hazards can kill you instantly. Playing it feels like a desperate, bloody brawl from start to finish.
