I remember picking up Spider-Man for the Sega Genesis back in 1991. It was published by Acclaim Entertainment, and it landed right in that era where licensed games were a real mixed bag. You got a side-scrolling action game where you played as Spider-Man, swinging through a New York City that felt more like a series of connected stages than an open world. It was a straightforward setup for the time, fitting right in with what the Genesis could do.

You control Spider-Man, and your main goal is to stop the Kingpin and his various henchmen. The game plays out screen by screen; you move from one section to the next, fighting thugs and dodging hazards. Your signature moves are web-swinging to cross gaps and web-shooting to stun or trap enemies from a distance. You also do a lot of climbing on walls and ceilings to navigate the levels and avoid attacks. The pacing is fairly quick, but the difficulty can spike unexpectedly, especially during some of the boss encounters. It feels like a challenging test of your reflexes and your ability to use Spidey's unique mobility under pressure.
