About Spider-man (acclaim) (beta)
Spider-Man for the Sega Genesis was developed by Acclaim, though the beta version I played never saw a full release. It arrived during a time when licensed games were common, and this one attempted to capture the feel of the 90s animated series on the 16-bit hardware.
You control Spider-Man through side-scrolling New York streets and interiors. The main goal is to stop a villain's plot, moving screen by screen while fighting thugs and dodging environmental hazards. Signature mechanics include using your web to swing across gaps and climb certain walls, alongside a close-range punch and kick combat system. The pacing is methodical, and the difficulty can be unforgiving, demanding precise jumps and careful enemy management. Playing it feels like a rough, unfinished test of your platforming and brawling skills.
