Spider-man (acclaim) (beta) (earlier) Game

Man, this early version of Spider-Man on the Genesis is such a weird time capsule. It's clearly trying to ride the hype of that killer 90s cartoon, but it plays more like a rough draft—some of the animations are janky, and the web-swinging feels stiff compared to later versions. You can tell they were still figuring things out.
That said, there's something charming about its scrappy energy. The sprites actually look pretty decent for the era, and fighting classic villains like Kingpin in these blocky stages has its own weird appeal. Just don't expect the polish of later Spidey games—this one's more for the "what could've been" curiosity factor.
Fun fact: The final release tweaked a bunch of this beta's rougher edges, but playing this early build feels like digging up a prototype action figure before they nailed the joints.
