About Space Invaders ?91
Space Invaders '91 came out for the Sega Genesis in 1990, developed and published by Taito. It was part of that wave of arcade updates that tried to give a classic formula a new coat of paint for the 16-bit era, sitting alongside other revamped shooters on the platform.
You control a lone laser cannon at the bottom of the screen, tasked with wiping out the descending alien formations before they reach the ground. This version replaces the original's destructible barriers with a personal energy bar that acts as your shield, absorbing a few hits before you lose a life. The aliens attack in more complex patterns now, sometimes splitting into smaller, faster units or deploying obstacles. The pacing is relentless, demanding quick reflexes and careful shot placement to clear each wave. It feels like a faster, more aggressive take on a familiar routine.
