About Space Invaders 90 (japan)
Space Invaders 90 was a Japan only release for the Sega Genesis, also known as the Mega Drive in that region. It was developed and published by Taito, the same company behind the original arcade hit. This version arrived during the 16 bit era, a time when developers were experimenting with new takes on classic formulas.
You control a laser cannon at the bottom of the screen, moving it left and right to shoot descending formations of aliens. Your main goal is to eliminate every invader before they reach the bottom or you run out of lives. The game introduces mechanics like destructible barriers you can hide behind and a bonus UFO that occasionally flies across the top of the screen for extra points. The pacing is relentless, with the aliens gradually speeding up as their numbers thin, creating a genuine tension. It feels like a direct, focused test of your reflexes and accuracy.
