About Sonic Classic Collection
Sonic Classic Collection came out for the Nintendo DS in 2010, published by Sega. It was a solid package for the handheld, arriving when the DS library was already packed with options. This compilation bundled the early Genesis games, letting you carry Sonic's 2D adventures in your pocket.
You control Sonic the Hedgehog, and sometimes his friends Tails and Knuckles, through fast side scrolling stages. The main goal is to get from the start of each zone to the end, defeating Dr. Robotnik along the way. Signature mechanics include building momentum to run at high speeds and curling into a spin ball to attack enemies. You also collect rings as a health buffer and hunt for Chaos Emeralds in special stages. The pacing is quick, and the difficulty can spike, especially in later levels and during the special stage challenges. It feels responsive and energetic to play, even on the smaller screen.
