If you grew up with a Sega Genesis, this DS collection hits right in the nostalgia. You get all the classics—Sonic 1 through 3 plus & Knuckles—in one cart, which is perfect for bus rides or killing time. The sprites look a little cleaner than the originals, but it’s still that same fast, slippery platforming we all remember (and yeah, the special stages are just as frustrating).
Weirdly, the DS buttons feel better for spin-dashing than the Genesis controller ever did. Only downside? No lock-on feature for Sonic 3 & Knuckles, so no playing as Knuckles in Sonic 2. Still, having Chemical Plant Zone in your pocket makes up for it.
