Alright, so Sonic 3 & Amy Rose is one of those classic Genesis romps that feels like a weird but fun mashup. You’ve got Sonic doing his usual speedy thing, but then Amy shows up—she’s way slower but hits harder, which changes up the usual flow. The levels are the same as the original Sonic 3, but playing as Amy makes it feel almost like a different game. No spin dash for her, so you’re forced to actually think before charging ahead.

First time I played, I kept faceplanting into badniks because I was so used to Sonic’s speed. But once you get the hang of her hammer swings, it’s oddly satisfying to just smash through everything. The music’s still a banger, though—those Genesis soundchip tunes never get old.

It’s not an official release, more of a fan mod, but if you’ve burned through Sonic 3 too many times, this gives it some fresh legs.
