Slaughter Sport is one of those weird, janky Genesis fighters that somehow sticks with you. The sprites are chunky, the controls take some getting used to, and the AI will absolutely wreck you if you button mash. But there's something oddly satisfying about the way your fighter's limbs flail when you land a hit.
You pick from these bizarre characters—some look like rejected Street Fighter prototypes, others like they wandered in from a barbarian movie—and then it's just you, some questionable collision detection, and a lot of trial-and-error combos. The music has that classic early-90s synth grime, and the announcer sounds like he's yelling through a tin can. It's not polished, but it's got personality.
Honestly, half the fun is laughing at how ridiculous some of the animations are. Just wait until you see the way fighters ragdoll when KO'd. It's a mess, but it's your mess now.
