About Simpsons, The - Bart's Nightmare (usa, Europe)
Bart's Nightmare came out for the Sega Genesis in 1992, published by Acclaim Entertainment. It was one of many licensed games from that period, trying to capture the show's chaotic energy on a 16-bit console. You step into Bart Simpson's shoes, or more accurately, his dream, after he nods off while trying to finish his homework.
You control Bart as he runs through a scrolling neighborhood, trying to catch his floating homework pages. Each page you jump on and grab transports you into a different mini-game. These segments change the gameplay completely; you might be dodging giant babies in a level based on Itchy & Scratchy, or side-scrolling through a parody of Indiana Jones. The main goal is to recover all the lost pages to finish Bart's assignment, but the constant switching between game styles keeps you on your toes. The difficulty can be unforgiving, with some mini-games requiring very precise timing to complete. It feels like a frantic, unpredictable tour through a kid's overactive imagination.
