Oh man, Bart vs. The Space Mutants is one of those classic Genesis games that’s way harder than it looks. You’re basically running around Springfield trying to stop these goofy purple aliens from… doing whatever evil alien stuff they’re up to. Mostly that means shooting stuff with your slingshot or spraying paint on random objects—because apparently, aliens hate purple? The logic is pure 90s cartoon nonsense, but it’s weirdly charming.

The controls take some getting used to—Bart’s jumps feel a little floaty, and some of the platforming is brutal. But there’s something satisfying about sneaking past security guards or tricking aliens by changing colors. Just don’t be surprised if you die a lot before figuring out what you’re even supposed to do. It’s one of those games where trial and error is half the experience.

If you grew up with the Simpsons or love janky retro platformers, it’s worth a play just for the nostalgia. Just maybe keep a walkthrough handy.
