About Side Pocket (japan)
Side Pocket came out for the Sega Genesis in 1992, published by Data East. It was one of the pool games you could find on the system, arriving at a time when straightforward sports simulations were common. The game presented a clean, functional take on billiards without a lot of the extra features that would appear in later titles.
You control the cue stick, aiming and setting the power for each shot. The main goal is to clear the table of all your assigned balls, and then sink the 8-ball to win. Two mechanics define the play: a power meter you carefully fill to determine shot strength, and the ability to apply English, putting spin on the cue ball to control its path after contact. The game moves at a deliberate pace, demanding thoughtful positioning over quick reactions, and the physics provide a consistent, predictable challenge. It feels like a quiet test of precision and planning.
