About Side Pocket (europe)
I first played Side Pocket on the Sega Genesis back in 1992. It was a Data East Corporation release, one of the few dedicated pool games available on the system at the time. While the Genesis had plenty of action titles, this was a straightforward simulation that offered a different kind of challenge.
You control the cue stick, aiming and setting the power for each shot. The main goal is to clear the table of all your designated balls, then sink the 8-ball to win. The game uses a screen by screen structure, moving you from one pool hall to the next as you win matches. A key mechanic is the power meter; you have to stop it at the right moment to control your shot strength. Another is the aiming guide, a helpful line that shows the cue ball's path. The difficulty ramps up noticeably as you progress, with opponents making fewer mistakes. It feels satisfying to line up a complex bank shot and watch the balls drop exactly as planned.
